Can lesbian love survive the military?
Sargeant First Class Tory Barrett, newly stationed at an Army base in Korea, finds herself attracted to Myra Sturdivan, her immediate subordinate. But her interest in Myra leads to some puzzling questions. Why does Myra seem so nervous and defensive, clutching her dog tags until her knuckles turn white?
Why is she ostracized by her fellow soldiers? And why has she turned away from her valued friendship with a local Korean woman?
As Tory's love for Myra grows and she seeks the answers to these questions, she is forced to confront the darker side of military life: sexual assault, harassment and exploitation of local women, witch hunts of lesbians, and the uncaring, often brutal attitudes of male soldiers.
The author's own experiences while stationed in Korea give the novel its authentic feel, and the timely and controversial issues of sexual harassment and gays in the military make this compelling reading.
